“An artists’ retreat, [The Double J Art Ranch] is like no other. In this Texas style paradise, an aerie perched high above the river, you become an active part of the place while staying here. Everything says, ‘Yes, let’s see what happens.’ This is what a world made by artists looks and feels like: the old dude ranch of 1950s cowboy movies still lives, with the evidence of the 21st century habitation by very cool people integrated as if this were the way it was always meant to be. Once you have been here it will call you back.”

Remnants and Oddities:
Photographic Images of Kent Barker and Peggy Wolf
Remnants, was inspired by the, “empty, aged and weathered remnants” found in towns that were once alive and prosperous throughout the southwest.
Kent Barker
Kent is an international photographer known for his commercial photography as well as portraiture. Kent uses a new process called HDR, or “high dynamic range” imaging. The resulting image has a dynamic range that exceeds what is possible in a single exposure, “old school ‘straight’ images made within the new parameters of modern digital technology.”
Remnants represents the feeling of something having taken place and moved on, just leaving the traces behind. Oddities are things I see that just make me laugh out loud.
Peggy Wolf
Peggy’s experience is from the other side of the coin -- the editorial world, where she has worked for publications such as D Magazine, Texas Homes, and Texas Monthly. She also freelanced for many years as a photographer taking stock photos and pics for catalogues and brochures. “This work is a collection of my favorite way to shoot,” says Peggy, “observing, feeling, questioning with a poetic sensibility.”
Kent and Peggy live in Dallas. Even though they are sweethearts, they both lived independent of one another in Taos for many years. Their work in this show is a reflection, in part, of the isolation and solitude found in Northern New Mexico. We are delighted that Kent and Peggy have agreed to do a show together at the ranch.
“At the Art Ranch things reduce to cosmological essentials. There’s the enfolding hacienda itself to represent the world. The river for time. And then the dogs - of every shape and disposition - here and there wherever you go, attending spirits.”
